Walter Hagen ("The Haig" or "Sir Walter") was the showman of golf. He was the most outgoing and charismatic guy to ever play golf. The original book was printed in 1957. We have reprinted it verbatim for your enjoyment.
This is not an instructional book. It will not tell you where to place your hands, or give you a new stance. It will tell you how to play the game and win.
It is the most inspirational book ever written about golf.
When you're in trouble and can't decide on what club to hit, look skyward, maybe "the Haig" will give you the answer.
Walter was firm believer that "winning" was all that counted.
A direct quote from Walter: "If you come in second on Sunday they will not ever remember your name on Tuesday." Second is just an also ran.
If you have ever read a Dale Carnegie book, you know it is to inspire you to be a better person. Carnegie never wrote on golf; but if he did, compared to this Walter Hagen book, Mr. Carnegie would be an also ran.
Some favorite firsts by Walter Hagen:
- 1st American Professional to win the U.S. Open (1914)
- 1st American Professional to play golf for a living
- 1st American Professional to earn a million dollars playing golf
- 1st Golf Professional to walk into the front door of any golf club
- Holds the title for most match play wins in golf
- Won 4 consecutive PGA Championships
- Won 11 Majors (only Jack Nicklaus won more)
The Walter Hagen story is the best biography ever written on golf. It is most likely the best biography in all of sports.
