From Arnold Palmer to Babe Zaharias, Wilson Golf was the premier golf manufacturer from the 1920's through the 1970's.
The Wilson Sporting Goods Company dates back to 1913, first known as the Ashland Manufacturing Co. Ashland was subsidiary of a meat packing firm and was engaged in selling it byproducts to produce products including violin strings, surgical sutures, and strings for tennis rackets. Ashland broadened its horizons by adding items for hunting & fishing, bicycles, tires and phonographs over the years.
In 1924, sports personalities were signed as members of an Advisory Staff. Gene Sarazen was the first member of the Wilson Golf Staff. As you look through the catalogs, you will see many of the golfers that were on the Wilson staff: San Snead (over 60 years), Johnny Farrel, Walter Hagen, Lloyd Mangrum, Arnold Palmer, Babe Zaharias and Patty Berg, to name only a few.
